Buildings, Landscapes Gallery
When travelling (if I’m not on assignment), I like to travel ‘light’, no big lenses etc. In part it is convenience, in part it’s a challenge to myself to use what I have. As a result, I normally take a single camera body and a bunch of fast primes, a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm and an 85mm. (Or a combination of) and ‘make do’. I take a flash but try to use available light where possible. When on assignment I tend to take what I need for the gig, plus a bit more to cover unexpected happenings, tight spaces and dark places tend to be the main issues.
I like quirky architecture and the join between buildings and the sky. I’m also a real fan of structure and accuracy in architectural pictures, symmetry, leading line and compositional techniques that draw the viewer in. I’m not a technical photographer agonising over composition for an age before taking the image, though compositional tricks can really benefit a picture. I’m happy to adhere to and to break the basic ‘rules’.
